The 600LT loses its roof

The brand new McLaren 600LT Spider was revealed today. This is part of McLaren’s plan to release 15 new models by 2022. While it is not a totally new model it is new … and exciting. This is the 5th vehicle to wear the LT badge, one that was introduced on the F1 GTR Longtail (LT) racecar in 1997. The LT moniker was reintroduced on the 675LT Coupé in 2015.

The 600LT was already faster and more agile than the previous benchmark of the 675LT. The signature top mounted exhausts are already known for spitting flames and having the top down will only add to the excitement and being able to hear and experience the pops and crackles from the same 592 bhp engine in the 600LT Coupé. The new 600LT Spider will accellerate from 0-100 Km/h in just 2.8 seconds, only 0.2 seconds slower than the Coupé.

“The McLaren 600LT Spider adds a new dimension of excitement to the most extreme model in the Sports Series family, while losing none of the Longtail focus. Taking full advantage of the strength of the carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis has ensured that the new Spider has dynamic abilities and performance on par with the 600LT Coupé, for a weight premium of just 110.2lbs and with no additional structural strengthening required. In addition to our weight advantage over competitors, we have also retained the top-exit exhausts that debuted on the Coupé – and I’m pleased to report that they sound and look even better with the roof or rear window of the Spider lowered!” – Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive

The 600LT Spider will be built at the McLaren Production Center in Woking, England. Production will be limited, although McLaren has not specified how many units they will be producing. Based on the response to the 600LT Coupé, expect that the order books will be filling up fast for the Spider.

The starting price is $256,500 USD, although you can add the optional MSO Clubsport pack for an additional $22,090. This will get you the lightweight Carbon Fibre bucket seats from the Senna, the Carbon Fibre Interior Upgrade, Carbon Fibre Front Fender Louvres and Titanium Wheel Bolts. All of this carbon fibre will shave 220.5 lbs from the weight. Customers can also opt to leave out the stereo and climate control to even further reduce weight.
