That time when I saw supercars at Mt Fuji
I’ve been fortunate enough in my life to have travelled all over the world. I spent many hours driving on trips with my family and going on vacations to Disney. Back in the summer of 2001 I had the privilege of going to Japan for 3 weeks and that was where interest in cars went from a mild inch to a full blown obsession. This was topped off by seeing 2 of the most legendary supercars of the time in person while touring near Mt Fuji. I’ll admit it. I was a band nerd. Yup, there I said it. However, being in the Regina Lions Band meant that I was…

That time when I slept outside of a Lamborghini dealer
Have you ever done things when you were younger that you regret when you get older? I’m sure that lots of us regret things we did because I know I have. However this is not one of those times. I slept outside of a Lamborghini dealer in my car in Vancouver one evening and it was one of the greatest nights of my life. Back in the summer of 2008 I was on summer break from my first year of university and the job I had held a retreat for a weekend in Vancouver, BC. I had planned to share a hotel room with some friends of mine, however that…

The Audi Q5 Sportback, now with even less headroom
Audi is playing catchup and capitalizing on the fastback SUV craze that has been sweeping the world for the past few years. Audi has done this by chopping off the back of the “Squareback Q5” and releasing new 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback to stand alongside the standard Q5 and SQ5. This continues along from the release of the Q3 Sportback and eTron Sportback models in the past year. The Sportback variants will compete directly with the Mercedes GLC Coupe, BMW X4 and the upcoming Infinity QX55. The Sportback variant isn’t new for Audi. They have had the A5 Sportback for several years and has sold very well…

Why I’m a car enthusiast
I’ve been a car enthusiast for about 20 years now. I was never really into cars all that much until I was in my early teens, around the turn of the millennium. I didn’t grow up with pictures of cars on my wall or working on cars with my dad. Once I discovered cars it not only became one of my interests but ultimately became part of my identity. I became a car enthusiast. My parents just weren’t car people, or at least they didn’t share their interest in cars with me very much. I knew that they had had at least a couple of cool cars and also both…

This is the year
For years now (10 years to be exact), ever since I sold my 1998 Honda Civic, I have been longing to get another fun to drive car. Now I will admit, a 1998 Honda Civic DX isn’t the most powerful or dynamic car to drive, but I had a blast with it either way. Now that I’m a bit older and more financially stable I feel that now is the time. This is the year that I make my dream a reality. This is the year I buy myself a fun, impractical sports car. Ever since the moment I handed over the keys to my Civic I have had to…

The return of Formula 1
Finally! The moment I’ve been waiting months for. Formula 1 is finally returning in 2020. After a long lock down period teams are now back at work in the factories getting their cars ready for the shortened 2020 season. Some teams have taken their cars out for shakedown runs to get the rust off from such a long break for the teams, like Mercedes did at Silverstone on June 10. The drivers are starting to come back as well. The season will kick off again with a double header at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, followed by Hungary and then another double header, but this time at Silverstone in…

Trade or Sell
The age old question when getting a new vehicle at a dealer – do you trade in your existing vehicle or sell it privately. Each has their own advantages and disadvantages, so why do people go with one option over the other? Ultimately, it depends on what your priorities are and what you perceive to be the better way. Which one is better for our needs and how would we get the better outcome for us, based our current priorities? Now that we’re looking to get a 9 passenger Suburban or Yukon XL we have been discussing which option to go with for getting rid of one of our vehicles.…

Life to the Limit
As a kid it’s normal to have people who you look up to, heroes even. For me, I didn’t really have any heroes for the majority of my childhood, other than my dad and grandpa. When I started watching Formula 1 in late 2003 I mostly focused on Ferrari being so dominant. However, by 2004 I got past the awe of the sport and the cars and got to understand the driver personalities. In history there have been a few drivers that most people who watch the sport in the past 40 years will have idolized – Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Michael Schumacher. I realized that there were a…

What it’s like to daily drive a minivan!
As many of you know, I daily drive a 2016 Kia Sedona LX+ minivan. This was originally because of my need to haul 3 kids, a dog and our stuff. Now that I have a larger blended family it is seriously helpful in getting kids around and came in handy when I was moving houses. If you missed the story of how I ended up owning a minivan, check it out here! I love cars and driving. I especially love fun to drive cars that are engaging to drive. Ones that will put a smile on your face even when all you’re doing is driving to grocery store. The Sedona…

That time when I went to an IndyCar race!
Back in 2008 Adam Booker, a long-time friend of mine, and I took a road trip from Saskatoon to Edmonton to attend the Rexall Edmonton Indy. It was both of our first experience attending a race. Both of us were excited, not only because it was going to be an epic weekend, but also because we hadn’t seen each other much in the previous year after I had moved away from Regina to attend university. The plan was that he would drive up from Regina and then we would hop into my car and drive the rest of the way. When we hopped into my car to leave it decided…
